February                                                 2019

On the Road . . .

My seasonal sewing started the Saturday after Thanksgiving. My friend & colleague, Rita Farro, organized a six day sewing & exercise retreat in Iowa for Mary Mulari, Deanna Springer & myself. Mother Nature had her own plans. The day after we arrived, magical, glistening snow fell, followed by wind and ice, closing roads. We did not go anywhere. No daily swimming at the YMCA. No daily walking in nearby wooded trails. Too much snow. Our yoga instructor was able to brave the elements for only two sessions. How do extended snow days translate? Sew days! Exercise was buried into the snow drifts. Our days evolved into blissful stitches, colorful conversations, great food and games. We each accomplished major sewing fetes.

Many of my 2019 outfits were started on retreat and finished during last week's Polar Vortex. I live in the Chicago area. Over the weekend we had a 90 temperature spread. The temperature was nearly 50 F yesterday. Unbelievable! What I know is that sewing at home with the blinds pulled and insulated curtains drawn, I entered into a Polar Vortex Sewing Extravaganza ... and I have the finished outfits to show for my time. Next week at the VDTA/SDTA dealer show in Las Vegas, I will wear a couple new outfits, but the big unveiling comes later in the month at the Sewing & Stitchery Expo in Puyallup WA. I hope our paths cross at an upcoming event. See my updated show schedule below.

If you want to keep up with me as I sew, travel and meet sewing & quilting fans, check out my new blog at sewmorestitches.com/blog. I meet so many awesome friends through sewing, I needed a way to share more pics and stories, so blogging it is. Come on over as I learn to blog and hopefully show you a glimpse into our wonderful world of sewing. Let's Sew!

SCHMETZ Inspired to SEW #62

MJ Kinman

Archived now at http://www.schmetzneedles.com.

One year ago, MJ Kinman and her unusually large gem quilts burst onto the quilting scene like a 4th of July Fireworks Finale. The first time she was a vendor at the International Quilt Market in 2017, it looked like a rock concert was happening in her booth. The quilting world had never seen anything quite like her large gemstone quilts ... it was like you were looking into a gigantic glittering diamond. MJs quilts have cut, clarity and color. MJ is clearly working and living in her brilliance. Click HERE.

SCHMETZ Inspired to SEW #61

Tracy Krauter

Archived now at http://www.schmetzneedles.com.

One of the main reasons to attend International Quilt Market, the largest sewing industry trade show, is to walk the show and see what's happening. Of course, it is always a pleasure to see the new fabric lines, and it's the best way to discover new teachers and designers. But to actually find a NEW PRODUCT is very exciting. Or, in the case of Tracy Krauter, a new spin on an old product. Do you remember oilcloth? Tracy Krauter had a vision, and she roared into 2018 Spring Quilt Market with her new, softer, gentler laminated fabric. Click HERE.
