On the Road . . .

In 2009 Kaye Wood was featured in the SCHMETZ Designer Portfolio. She described herself as a "quilt engineer" simplifying the quilt making process. Kaye has cut back on her vending schedule, so seeing her in Charlotte was a delightful surprise!

My spring teaching schedule is now a wrap. From Pasadena for QuiltCon, Puyallup for Sewing & Stitchery Expo, Atlanta for Original Sewing & Quilt Expo to Charlotte for VDTA (sewing & vacuum wholesale show). I am healthy and my flights were uneventful. I LOVE all my sewing friends and am so invigorated!

On this trip I saw more kids and guys with finished sewing projects: The little guy with the dinosaur costume;  father & son made Beauty & The Beast costumes; the young man made a tailored suit. Wow, ambitious projects no matter the skill level! Really, I think guys have always been sewing at home. The welcome mat is out for all to share their sewing talents.

SCHMETZ Inspired to SEW #51

Design Stars: Cheryl, Ebony, Reen, Frieda, Angela

Archived now at http://www.schmetzneedles.com.

We recently had visitors from the Industrial Division of SCHMETZ Germany. To help SCHMETZ executives better understand the consumer market, many activities were arranged. Yes, we had traditional meetings and visited retail shops, but we ended the week with a star studded designer showcase with five designers from the Chicago area. Each designer presented their special niche in the marketplace. The result was aptly described by SCHMETZ as "astonishing!" The day was laced with energy, talent, savvy and a passion for creativity.

These five business women demonstrated grit, talent, creativity and strategic work. With hard work, that never goes out of style, they make awesome contributions to the sewing industry that we love. Meet, or re-meet, because several ladies have already been featured in SCHMETZ Inspired to SEW: Cheryl Sleboda, Ebony Love, Reen Wilcoxson, Frieda Anderson and Angela Wolf. Five shining stars that make sewing even more fun! Click HERE.

Do SCHMETZ Needles Work With My Machine?

SCHMETZ works with all these sewing machine brands . . . and more! SCHMETZ engineers work with sewing machine manufacturers around the world to ensure that the SCHMETZ needle performs properly in your home sewing, embroidery and quilting machines. Most home machines use needle system 130/705 H. If in doubt, check your owner's manual or ask your machine dealer.

Sew SCHMETZ!

Attendees at 2018 Sewing & Stitchery Expo had a chance to leave a note on how Nancy Zieman influenced their life. By the time the show was over, touching notes filled the above display. Here are a few random memories:

Nancy brought so much enjoyment and friendship through her classes, books (including her life story) and tools. / My daughter is now known as the Yo-Yo Queen thanks to you! / Of all the Saturday morning sewing shows, my husband really enjoyed listening to Nancy Notions. / You were always so inspiring. Letting me feel I could do it ... and so I did! I love your last book, what a gift, just in time for my own granddaughters. Thank you for years of encouragement.  / I discovered Nancy late, but will enjoy her past videos and appreciate all she has offered us!! / I learned to appreciate the handiness of notions. Before watching Nancy's show, I had never tried bobbin holders or seam rippers. I used a razor blade. Nancy's no nonsense sewing showed me to use the tools. / I so looked forward to every Saturday morning with Sewing with Nancy. I learned so much from her. She was a major blessing in my life. Thank you! / Thinking of you sewing in a happier place! / My inspiration for sewing since day one. Pleasure to meet and tell her so! I will treasure her always. / When my boys were young, Nancy would come into my home via PBS and remind me that someday I could sew again. She kept me informed, looked right at me and became my friend. I wept when she died. Miss you friend. / Nancy was a huge part of my sewing education. Every Saturday morning I turned into her show to learn and be inspired. She will be missed. / I got lots of great ideas from Nancy. The best tip was how to sew a sharp point in a collar. / Nancy is my best sewing friend. Let her live on in TV and her store. / Thanks a million for all the support & inspiration to the sewing world. The Sewing with Nancy legacy will continue in our hearts. Thanks! / You taught me that all things are possible with fabric, thread and a sewing machine. / Thank you for teaching me sew much. You will be forever missed. / You inspired & encouraged me to explore so many fun projects. / I learned to be unafraid of sewing, tailoring and fitting. More than that, I learned to see myself as a person who can do things. I became braver and then I went to med school and became a doctor! / I love Nancy and all she did for the sewing community. Thanks to her I'm doing charity sewing that I heard about on one of her shows. It was meant "to be."
