Needle Points from Rhonda

Lately I’ve been in a cleaning frenzy. First my sewing room at home, giving tons of books away to sewing newbies and now my office. Really, I would procrastinate on my office, but we are moving our warehouse and offices, so I am now on a timeline and forced to purge even more. Lots of sewing goodies have been organized into SCHMETZ tote bags as prizes for distribution later this month to contest winners at the American Sewing Expo. Books, fabrics, notions, patterns — all kinds of sewing goodies . . . although I kept my fabric scraps. Yes, “someday” all those beautiful scraps will make a stunning quilt. I just know it!

Hope to see you soon in Novi, MI at the American Sewing Expo. It’s going to be a great show!

Grab a friend and start sewing! National Sewing Month is a time to indulge your passion for sewing and is the perfect opportunity to introduce yourself to the craft if you’ve never tried it before. New and experienced enthusiasts can find free sewing projects and guidelines for sewing, embroidery, craft and appliqué articles available on the Sewing & Craft Alliance (SCA) website at www.sewing.org. Looking for an instructor? Try the SCA searchable instructor database to find one in your area.

Another place to start is the American Sewing Guild. With chapters and neighborhood groups across the country, members meet monthly to share their skills and ideas, enjoy education sessions and participate in community sewing projects.

September is a time to celebrate our passion, but we know the creative, therapeutic and calming effects of sewing are joys that we can celebrate throughout the entire year. Ready . . . Set . . . Stitch!

At last... easy to identify SCHMETZ needles! Most needles now have two bands of color — the top band to identify needle type and the lower band to identify size. The Universal needle has just one band of color for size. Yahoo!
