Needle Points from Rhonda

I've just returned from International Quilt Market in Houston TX and am still all charged up. This wholesale mecca for quilt exhibitors and retailers is a massive explosion of color, patterns, textures, friends, designers and vendors each vying for attention. And yes, we may be touched by madness in pursuit of the latest and greatest!

Lucky me got to guide Rolando Bohlemann, SCHMETZ USA President through his first Quilt Market. And what fun it was! First stop was visiting our distributors that carry SCHMETZ, then chatting with manufacturers and designers that support the most recognized name in the sewing industry - SCHMETZ.

This is one of my favorite pics - a selfie with Rolando, Pam Holland and Kym Goldup-Graham .... I did a lot of FaceBooking on location, so if you missed my pics you can go to www.facebook.com/schmetzneedles.

SCHMETZ Inspired to SEW #9

Who knew I would find myself posing for the Original Butt Sketch World Tour? That's right, I didn't know such a happening took place either, but I found out in Dallas TX while vending at the Moda Fabrics Open House. Yes, I tried something new and hope you too will try something fun like a road trip to Toronto to the Creativ Festival produced by Rita Gramsch. Or if you have been toying with a new product idea, Feather King's Grabbit story may be just the inspiration you need. If you have that next great idea, let me know. We'll put our heads together to talk about the possibilities ... and by the way, my husband loves my butt sketch!

SCHMETZ Needle Eye Comparison

  • The eye of most needles - including the SCHMETZ Universal - is approximately 40% the width of the blade. As the needle size increases, so does the eye.
  • There are three needle types with eyes larger than 40%: Embroidery, Metallic and Topstitch.
  • What does a larger eye mean? Less friction on the thread. So if your thread is repeatedly breaking or shredding, or you are using heavier weight threads, use a needle with a larger eye.

SCHMETZ App - Updated Version (1.2.1)

Wondering which needle to use? Wonder no more because there's an App for That! That's right ... and it's free! CLICK HERE to download the most recent version (1.2.1).

At last ... easy to identify SCHMETZ needles! Most needles now have two bands of color - the top band to identify needle type and the lower band to identify size. The Universal needle has just one band of color for size. Yahoo!
