On the Road . . .

My sewing & quilting world is AWESOME! When someone asks, "What do you do?" I respond by saying, "I promote sewing and quilting." Then after a pause I state, "I sell sewing machine needles." This last statement always receives an amused look unless the inquirer sews or quilts. Then a cheerful smile appears and an instant bond is formed followed by stitch stories. Of course, we talk about SCHMETZ needles and the projects we have made and dream of making.

Last month I attended Quilt Canada in beautiful Vancouver . . . then on to Indiana for the picturesque Shipshewana Quilt Festival. I taught SCHMETZ classes at both venues. To each of you I met, thank you for eagerly sharing your love of sewing!

SCHMETZ Inspired to SEW #54

Joanne Hillestad

Archived now at http://www.schmetzneedles.com.

Ideas can Pop-Up at any time. An intriguing idea intersecting with a serendipitous conversation, a wire-y husband, International Quilt Market and an insatiable appetite from eager buyers, quickly launched the success story of a million dollar idea. Meet Joanne Hillestad, inventor of the wildly popular Pop-Up. Joanne’s journey includes a health diagnosis that no one wants. With backbone, grit and the support of family and friends, Joanne inspires us to move forward and create. Although Joanne does not say this, her story illustrates “Pop-Up for Life!” Click HERE.

SCHMETZ Needle Fact - Copy & Paste into Your Own Newsletter or Blog!

The most popular needle, the Universal, has an eye that is 40% the width of the blade. Really!
There are three other needles with larger eyes, the Embroidery and even more pronounced is
the elongated eye of the Metallic and Topstitch needles.

Now what does a larger eye mean? There is less friction on the thread as it passes through the eye.
Ever sew with a thread that breaks or tends to shred? Guess what, use a needle with a larger eye.
If you have old thread or maybe a poor quality thread, use a needle with a larger eye.
The thread and needle work hard and fast. Help them out when you can with a larger eye.
