February 2017

On the Road . . .

February is a big month for show preparations and travel. If you are a quilt/fabric shop owner or machine dealer, I hope to see you at the influential VDTA/SDTA in Las Vegas. This is my favorite industry show simply because of the significant contacts and serendipitous conversations in a smaller & more intimate venue. Come by to chat in the Euro-notions booth or take my SCHMETZ Needle Education class. For fun I have tickets to the Diana Ross and Elton John concerts.

Late this month I visit Fabric Depot in Portland OR to give the SCHMETZ needle class, then drive up to Puyallup WA for North America's largest sewing party, Sewing & Stitchery Expo. This year, I return to the classroom to teach four SCHMETZ classes, host the Hat Contest and for the fifth year serve as the official #SewExpo Facebook host. Yes, I'll be wearing comfortable shoes to cover the Expo live from the massive Washington State fair grounds. As attendees shop the Expo aisles, I LOVE hearing their sewing stories and adore seeing the fabulous outfits they made.

So, if we don't chat in person at one of these events, I will see you on Facebook!

What Do Those Numbers Mean?
How to Read the Needle Package.

Home sewing machines require a needle with a flat shank and a scarf
- that little indentation above the eye on the back side of the needle.
Needles with a flat shank and a scarf are identified as needle system
130/705 H. There are over 7,000 needle systems throughout the world.
Thankfully, 99% of home sewing machines use 130/705H.

Classic Sewing magazine is sure to inspire your spring sewing. The new IRIS Multi-Colored Head Pins were featured in The Sewing Box column as a sewing room staple. Check out this beautiful magazine and the new IRIS pins.

Remember . . .

YOUR Needle!

- The needle is meant to be changed -

- The needle gets dull from use -

- The needle is NOT a permanent machine part -

SCHMETZ needles are easy to identify! Most needles have two bands of color - the top band to identify needle type and the lower band to identify size. The Universal needle has just one band of color for size. Yahoo!
