Needle Points from Rhonda

It's true, I hang out with some pretty awesome creative people. This is Rita Farro and Eileen Roche hanging out in the SCHMETZ booth at Fall International Quilt Market. I loved capturing this moment! You know Eileen as the founder and editor of Designs in Machine Embroidery magazine. Rita is a brilliant writer and former columnist for Designs in Machine Embroidery. They were brought together again through SCHMETZ Inspired to SEW. Be sure to read Rita's interview with Eileen in issue #14. I love how SCHMETZ brings so many sewing sisters together, whether blood related or not.

SCHMETZ Inspired to SEW #14

You know Eileen Roche as the founder and editor of Designs in Machine Embroidery magazine, Stitching Sisters Retreat, author and inventor of machine embroidery tools. Get the background story of Eileen's magnificent career transitioning from sports promotion to hobby sewing to machine embroidery expert. You'll love Eileen and her story!

Plus The Sewing Sisterhood cover is a machine embroidery freebie provided by Sue O'Very, owner of Sealed with a Stitch. On the inside front cover of this issue, find the special link to download the exclusive design . . . and be sure to check out all of Sue's designs, because they are delightfully fresh. Do you agree that sewing brings us together? The Sisterhood of Sewing brings a lot of smiles or to quote the Midwest YaYa Sisters, "Sometimes birth made us sisters, other times, the sewing made it happen." Enjoy this special issue.

Stretching Your Knit Sewing Know-How

with Londa

Fabulous knit fabrics are readily available.  If you have questions on how to sew with these stretchy fabrics, meet Londa Rohling, owner of Londa's Creative Threads.  Londa is a sewing expert and her new DVD removes the mystery of sewing with knits.  Of course, she loves SCHMETZ needles and the long lasting and ever sharp Roll The Gold Titanium coated rotary blades.  Purchase through your local shop or go to:  http://www.londas-sewing.com/shop/product/stretching-your-knit-sewing-know-how-londa/.

What's the Difference Between a SCHMETZ Stretch Needle and a Jersey Needle?

Please feel free to copy this image for use on your blog or web site.
  • A Stretch Needle has a shorter and narrower eye compared to a Jersey needle.

  • The Stretch Needle scarf (that little indentation on the back side of the needle above the eye) is deeper.

  • Both needles have a medium ballpoint.

Use the SCHMETZ Stretch needle on elastic or highly elastic fabrics. Start with a Stretch Needle if the fabric blend includes or Spandex. If the stitch quality is not to your liking, then switch to the Jersey.

At last ... easy to identify SCHMETZ needles! Most needles now have two bands of color - the top band to identify needle type and the lower band to identify size. The Universal needle has just one band of color for size. Yahoo!
